5 Awesome Tips To Help You Set Truly Worthy Goals

Do you wake up each day excited to work on your goals? If you don’t, your current goals may not be genuinely worthy ones.

Setting goals is one of the most powerful ways to take control of your life and ensure that you end up where you want to be. However, it’s crucial that you set worthy goals that are truly meaningful to you. If you don’t, you could wind up spending years of your life trying to reach a goal that is ultimately unfulfilling.

In this article I would like to share some great tips that will help you set worthy goals that you genuinely enjoy.

Here are the 5 characteristics of worthy goals:

1) They Reflect your Core Values

It’s easy to lose sight of your own goals and get caught up in trying to achieve what friends, family, or even society want you to pursue. What other people want for you is not necessarily what you want for yourself!

In order to avoid this mistake, you must be clear on what your core values are.

Let me ask you this: If you didn’t care what other people thought of you, would you still pursue the same goals?

2) They Excite and Energize You

Your goals should be exciting and energizing. As personal development expert Steve Pavlina notes, “If your goals are not exciting you as much as going on vacation, they are lousy goals.” You may have to do certain things to achieve your goals that aren’t particularly enjoyable, but, in general, you should be excited by them and eager to work on them each day.

Are your goals as exciting to you as going on vacation?

3) Their Achievement Process is Enjoyable

This is somewhat similar to the previous point. One of the most important characteristics of a worthy goal is that it is enjoyable to attain. You should enjoy the achievement process rather than focusing solely on the outcome.

A common mistake most of us make is assuming that achieving our goals will make us happy. However, take a moment to look back at some of the goals you’ve accomplished in your life. How long did the satisfaction of achieving them really last? One day? One week? One month?

If your goals wont benefit you until you attain them, that’s a red flag. Truly worthy goals should improve your current reality. If they don’t, the satisfaction you’ll get from achieving your goal will be short-lived.

4) They Are Based on Love not Fear

What needs are you trying to meet with your goals? Are you trying to earn recognition, money, security, or approval? It’s regrettably common to see highly successful people that have everything they’ve ever dreamed of but are still unhappy deep down.

I believe that we pursue goals out of either love or fear. When we pursue a goal from a place of love, we’re trying to give something to the world. Our main focus is to serve people and make them happy. We aren’t trying to prove anything to anyone.

When our goals are based on fear, on the other hand, we’re trying to get something out of the world. It may be approval, recognition, money, or power. This reflects a deeper sense of feeling not good enough or lacking in some way.

It’s very unlikely that achieving goals will help you overcome whatever you lack deep down, no matter how big your achievement may be.

If improperly used, goals can become a great excuse for us to avoid looking at ourselves. They can distract us from our deeper issues by keeping us focused on external things that we mistakenly believe will make us happy.

Are your current goals based on fear or love? Are you trying to give something to the world or get something out of it?

5) They Help You Become a Better Person

Truly worthy goals should improve your present reality. They are supposed to help you move from a place of fear and ego to a place of love. If your goals are not helping you grow and become a better person, they aren’t truly worthy goals.

Your goals should help you overcome your fears and unlock your potential little by little. Feeling like you aren’t good enough, being shy, caring about what others think of you, and feeling unloved or unappreciated are all different manifestations of fear.
